Behind Bali Abundance — Episode 15: New Beginnings, New Makers and the Magic That Never Fades
May 2026
It's been a while since I sat down to write one of these — and honestly, that's because life at Bali Abundance has been full. Full of travel, full of discovery, full of the kind of moments that remind me exactly why I started this journey in the first place.
Welcome back to Behind Bali Abundance. If you're new here, this series is my way of pulling back the curtain on everything that goes into bringing these beautiful, handcrafted pieces into your home. It's not just about furniture and décor — it's about the people, the places, and the stories woven into every grain of wood and every hand-smoothed stone.
So let's catch up.
Back on the Road
There's a particular feeling I get every time the plane descends into Bali. Even after all these years — and it's been a long time, since I first fell in love with this island at 18 years old — it still takes my breath away. The terraced rice fields, the Balinese offerings, the smell of frangipani and the warmth of the people. It never gets old.

This past year, I've been back on the road in a big way. Bali, of course — but also deeper into the villages of Rajasthan, India, where our Eco Village Collection was born. Each trip has brought with it new friendships, new makers, and new pieces I couldn't wait to bring home to you.

The Eco Village Collection: Unique hand sourced pieces
When I first visited the villages of Rajasthan, I wasn't sure what to expect. What I found was extraordinary — communities of artisans who have been crafting furniture and homewares for generations, using techniques passed down through families, and materials sourced with deep respect for the land.
The Eco Village Collection is the result of those relationships. Many pieces made from reclaimed and recycled timber — wood with a past life, given a new one. My passion is finding vintage and repurposed pieces. The hand-carved details, the earthy tones, the slightly imperfect edges that tell you a human being made this with their hands — that's what makes these pieces so special. Knowing that purchasing one of these pieces directly supports these families — that's not a marketing line. That's the whole point.

This trip to India we were very privileged to be invited to my supplier's family wedding. What an awesome experience. We felt like we were in a Bollywood Movie. So different to an Australian Wedding.

Me above indulging in kulfi (Indian icecream) 😋at the wedding. Cannot walk past a good Kulfi.
The Vintage Pieces: Stories in Every Imperfection
We've also been bringing in more vintage and reclaimed pieces — old Javanese doors, Rajasthan doors, antique panels, furniture with decades of history behind them. I love these pieces because they come with a story already written. The marks and patina aren't flaws; they're the feature. This is the part I love...
Sourcing vintage pieces is a slow, patient process. It means wandering through markets and workshops, building trust with dealers over many visits, and having the eye to see potential in something that looks rough around the edges. It's one of my favourite parts of this work.
This trip I found the most amazing vintage console — long, beautifully aged timber carving, and the kind of piece that's become almost impossible to find. I was absolutely beside myself.
The People Behind It All
I want to take a moment to talk about something that matters deeply to me: the artisans.
Every piece in the Bali Abundance collection was made by a person — someone with a family, a community, a craft they've spent years perfecting. When you bring one of our pieces into your home, you're not just buying furniture. You're participating in a chain of care that stretches from a small workshop in Bali or Rajasthan all the way to your living room.
What's Coming Next
